The End and a New Beginning

The definitive classic by Elgar, his string serenade, and Ravel’s homage to the fallen soldiers of La Grande Guerre, combined with a genuinely special piece. Linguistic virtuoso Rainer Maria Rilke published his gripping poems about the war adventures of Christoph Rilke two years before the First World War broke out. The Swiss composer Frank Martin set them to music during the Second World War, and it became one of his masterworks. A truly inspiring evening.
