Jussen with One Hand Tied Behind his Back
Ravel wrote his piano concerto for the left hand for pianist Paul Wittgenstein, brother of the famous philosopher. Paul lost his right arm during the First World War. Tonight, the piece will be played by another famous brother: Arthur Jussen. Music from the ballets ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ and ‘Firebird’ will also be brought to life with the original drawings of the decors from the premieres of those works, which will be shown during this concert.
