Ever since its premiere, which was a resounding success at the time, Beethoven’s ‘Egmont’ has been performed only rarely. Richard Egarr, who is known for his keen and inspiring interpretations of Beethoven, presents his vision of the dramatic music composed by the German master for Goethe’s play. In this anniversary year to mark 75 years of peace and freedom, we tell the story of the Dutch Count of Egmont and his battle against the Spaniards. This performance also features the debut of soprano Elizabeth Watts, renowned for her astonishing lyrical voice.
