fiery, passionate, brilliant, revolutionary
Building on Beethoven’s genius, Berlioz launched a true revolution in 1830 with his Symphonie Fantastique. Core motifs, drama, massive orchestras: these were all unheard of until then. Berlioz’s composition is a musical autobiography in which he describes his ardent but hopeless love for the Irish actress Harriet Smithson. This music is so passionately beautiful that you simply must hear it at least once in your life.
