Glory and Tragedy
War has its horrors, but it also has a place for honour, courage, spirit of sacrifice and heroism. The tragedy may be that the one cannot exist without the other. The two sides of the coin writhe and grate in the unbearably exciting Cello Concerto by Shostakovich. A mature and intense work that is in the capable hands of the international star cellist Julian Steckel. And don’t forget – it’s also the debut of visionary conductor Christoph Poppen!
