His marriage to Constanze inspired Mozart to compose a major mass, with his new wife as the first soloist. Although unfinished, it is a highlight of Mozart’s vocal oeuvre. The mass is passionate and opulent but also dramatic and lyrical. Mozart’s admiration for Bach and Handel is clearly evident. Cappella Amsterdam, an amazing quartet of soloists, and our principal guest conductor, Richard Egarr, work together in this moving and beautiful piece.
A complete evening!
