The Pioneering Second

Blossoms in the Snow

In 1809, Russia annexed Finnish territory and banned the Finnish language. Sibelius worked the sound of his native tongue into his pioneering Second Symphony as wordless criticism. The piece is intense. It’s intense music that yearns like early spring blossoms in the snow. Virtuoso violinist Maria Milstein also plays the romantic violin concerto by Bruch, the perfect piece to showcase her exceptional talent.
