Rossini, Haydn and the ‘Dutch Beethoven’
Here, Rossini’s turbulent overtures form a strong contrast with the gracious elegance of Haydn’s Cello Concerto. Add to that the Sixth Symphony of Wilms (the composer known to contemporaries as the ‘Dutch Beethoven’), and you have everything required for an energetic evening under the direction of conductor Richard Egarr.
