Amare is the name of the new educational and cultural complex at the Spui in The Hague

The name for the new educational and cultural complex in The Hague is Amare. It is an Italian word meaning ‘to love’, as well as a reference to “a mare”, in other words: “by the sea“. From 2021 Amare will house Residentie Orkest Den Haag, Zuiderstrandtheater, Nederlands Dans Theater and the Royal Conservatory.

Sven Arne Tepl, CEO & Artistic Director of the Residentie Orkest The Hague about the name: “Amare, meaning to love and to embrace, has a musicality to it and reflects the location by the sea. It is a friendly, warm, and hospitable name that invites to meet one another and to enjoy music and dance together.

The new educational and cultural complex will accomodate the whole of The Hague. A house for the performing arts, creative development and (international) excellent programming. Everyone is welcome, whether for theater or concert visits, workshops, attending rehearsals, conference visits or just for cup of coffee or a meeting. Together with the other cultural institutions on the Spui, Amare will form the cultural heart of the city The Hague.
