Nothing less than the most gripping, powerful and amazing masterworks from the history of classical music.
“You have to hear this”
“Why are these particular works on the series?”, radio producer and interviewer Lex Bohlmeijer asks Sven Arne Tepl. His answer: “These are the absolute ‘classics’ that we as symphony musicians say you have to have heard. They have something so special that you really must experience them once in your life. Pieces like Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony or Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. We connect universal emotions to classical music. You remember something like that for the rest of your life.”
Before the concert
Before the concert starts, Lex Bohlmeijer asks the orchestra members questions submitted by the audience. He explains, “The entire orchestra is already on stage to play some of the themes and sounds from the programme. It really brings the music to life. It’s like when you’re eating something wonderful at a restaurant and the chef comes out to tell you personally about the ingredients and the preparation – the taste is much more intense.”
“After the concert, we have a chat with drinks in the foyer,” Lex continues. “The orchestra members are there too, so please tell them what you thought of the concert, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Our musicians like to speak through their music, but they also like to talk about it.”
Why should you buy the complete series? Lex explains, “The entire series is an interesting combination of composers and pieces, and every concert we explore various musical aspects and contrasts: different conductors, traditions and facets of the music. Russian and German romantic music, Beethoven and Mendelssohn and so forth. It’s an exciting adventure, as if you’re exploring a musical museum with the greatest artworks of history on the walls. Wouldn’t you want to have seen every room and every floor of the museum?”
