Vacancy 2nd Bassoon (50%)

Residentie Orkest the Hague, one of the most innovative orchestras in the Netherlands, is proving more than ever before the importance of symphonic music for a large and wide audience, even in the 21st century. Since the summer of 2015, the orchestra has been presenting concerts in the Zuiderstrandtheater and will be based in the new educational and cultural complex in the heart of The Hague from 2021. In addition to the symphonic canon, the orchestra also performs new work and cross-over programmes. The orchestra can be heard in the major concert halls both in the Netherlands and abroad. This orchestra, which performs internationally, has throughout its history enjoyed inspirational leadership from a series of chief conductors including Hans Vonk, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Jaap van Zweden and Neeme Järvi.
Nicholas Collon is the current chief conductor and artistic adviser, while Richard Egarr is the principal guest conductor. From the 2021/2022 season, Anja Bihlmaier will take over the role of chief conductor and, in addition to Richard Egarr, Jun Märkl will also join us as our principal guest conductor.

The Residentie Orkest maintains an emphatic presence in the city, playing open air concerts and providing educational projects at innumerable schools. The orchestra has an established involvement in such important events as the annual Troonrede, or King’s Speech. The orchestra also celebrates major public holidays alongside the population of The Hague and surrounding area, with concerts at Christmas, New Year, and King’s Day. Collaborations with local and national partners such as the Dutch National Theatre, Festival Classique, Paard, Dutch National Opera & Ballet, the Dutch National Opera Academy and the Saturday Matinee concert series in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw are just as important.

The ambitions of the orchestra are spearheaded by its educational policy. Every year, more than 30,000 school pupils get involved in the educational projects, placing the Residentie Orkest at the forefront of musical education in The Hague. The orchestra has developed an educational and outreach programme for all ages, providing a major contribution to social cohesion in the city.

The Residentie Orkest has an immediate vacancy for

2nd bassoon (50%)

The position
The bassoon section currently comprises two principals and a 2nd bassoon/contrabassoon player. We are now looking for an additional 2nd bassoonist. In addition to playing symphonic repertoire in the orchestra, you will also be available for educational and outreach activities and staged performances in smaller ensembles.

Requirements for the position
It goes without saying that you will be a distinguished bassoonist. You must have the qualities needed to perform as the foundation of the woodwind section. The position also means you will be contributing towards the orchestra’s overall quality and you will be involved in literally “setting the tone” for the orchestra. You will find it enjoyable and important to cooperate in educational and outreach activities and projects, as well as ensemble work, in addition to your podium activities in the section. You must be a positive, engaged section member who can strike the right balance between individuality and sectional playing; in other words, a team player!
