Realised by the Friends
For almost 75 years, the Friends of the Residentie Orkest Association has been supporting the ambitions of Residentie Orkest. This season it will support the projects Samenklank, the City Orchestra and the One Minute Symphony XL.
City Orchestra The Residents
The orchestra in which primary school students from The Hague can participate.
One Minute Symphony XL
Composition students of the Royal Conservatoire write a short symphony for Residentie Orkest.
Musici van het Residentie Orkest komen bij eenzame mensen thuis, om muziek te maken, een praatje te maken of een kopje koffie te drinken.
The Friends made it possible to perform several ‘Apple pie-concerts’ in 2018 and 2019. Originally an initiative from ‘Stichting Appeltaartconcerten’, in which ensembles perform in retirement homes and care homes. Please watch the video for a short impression of the project.
Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Friends Association contributed € 35,238.58 to the acquisition of five brand new horns. An investment enjoyed both by the musicians and the concert visitors!

Up Close & Personal series
The chamber music series Up Close & Personal in the Nieuwe Kerk has become a success, partially thanks to the support of the Friends Association. Musicians of Residentie Orkest create their own programme, which often include surprising choices. Friends still receive a 10% additional discount to the series in the Nieuwe Kerk.

One Minute Symphony
Partly thanks to the Friends Association, Residentie Orkest was able to start the One Minute Symphony project. In this project, composition students from the Royal Conservatoire will hit the streets and each student will make contact with a resident in a neighbourhood in The Hague. The young composer will draw inspiration from this meeting and write a one-minute symphony, written to complement the piece that the orchestra plays that week.
Beluister alle composities
The Friends Association celebrated its 70th anniversary with a beautiful gift: a set of new timpani for the Residentie Orkest. The regular conductor, Jan Willem de Vriend, called this Schnellar timani set the Stradivarius of the timpani. You can hear these timpani in practically every concert of Residentie Orkest.
